Maison Skyaasen was a bit of a sub darling a few years ago, after a [series of posts](https://www.reddit.com/r/wine/s/HcJXeoMr4r) by u/bigburgballer (who I don’t think has been active here lately but was the Mchang of his time).

Though Skyaasen is still very much an IYKYK high-quality negociant, I frankly hear it mentioned a bit less in “producers that will skyrocket” discussions now than a couple of years ago. Regardless, I buy their bottles anytime I can as they’re tough to come by and still represent good value for low-intervention, thoughtfully crafted Burgundy.

This Bourgogne Côte d’Or is made of Pinot Noir from throughout the region, but mostly the well-respected Cote de Beaune town of Volnay. Joachim and Olivia, the winemakers, source fruit only from certified organic growers, and fermentation happens with native yeasts. Maturation uses only old oak and no sulfur. Alcohol is pretty restrained at 12.5% ABV.

**Tasting Notes:** vibrant ruby red color. A lot of fresh red berries on the nose, with some florals and a bit of stemminess. Palate starts sharp with acidity — which makes sense for a wine this young — but mellows out quickly with some air. Medium+ length, fresh, fruity finish with some earthiness. This is still a baby, and I think it’ll develop more earthy complexity, though I don’t think it’s necessarily one to cellar for a long time given the juicy fruit is its main charm. Solid wine for $60ish USD retail.
