Okay, what rug would you do to this room to make it feel more cozy?
To the right of the picture, we have a wall of Ikea Billy bookshelves with doors surrounding our tv and it’s a path of travel to our bedroom.
Where I am standing to take this is our fireplace and mantle, and the path of travel from the front door/stairs landing to the kitchen.
Ideally, I need a square rug to anchor the space, something not terribly busy to go on the back wall, and a larger coffee table.
Any specific product recommendations? Or ideas I haven’t considered?

Beautiful room, soooo much potential.
– large rectangular rug with colors. The rug should sit about a foot under the sofa.
– incorporate colors from rug into throw pillows and artwork, or gallery wall.
– plants! Such a beautiful bright room makes for happy plants.
– a sofa chair that compliments the sofa
The rug is doing real structural work here. With a bookshelf wall anchoring one side and a fireplace plus travel path on the other, the rug needs to define the seating zone cleanly – square makes good sense given what you’ve described. For cozy specifically: warm tones tend to read warmer than cool ones (cream over grey, terracotta over blue), and pile height matters more than people expect. A flatter weave like a kilim reads airier; a thicker pile reads more settled-in. If cozy is the goal, lean toward something with a bit of weight to it.For the back wall – if you want nothing busy, a single large piece in a warm muted tone will do more than any gallery arrangement. Give it room to breathe. What’s the current light situation? South or west facing windows change the calculus quite a bit on warm vs cool color choices.
I would definitely try to find a rectangular rug for the space Also art work above the sofa will add interest. Consider replacing the coffee table with a somewhat larger piece – maybe a square table would work because it would be in reach of the other side of the sectional. In general add decor that offers more color and contrast. Nice space.
