Turley, Juvenile, Zinfandel, 2021, 15.2% abv.
Nose: strong red fruit jam, red fruit rollup, some purple fruit, a bit of fruity wax. I love it.
Palate: light to medium body, entry is red fruit jam, mid palate gets a bit dry, hint of wax, bit of earth, but all berry-type jams, back palate has some light paper, more red fruit jam, powdery tannins develop strength. To the point.
Finish: short to medium, dry and powdery mouthfeel, some red fruit jam, light banana peel, waxy raspberries and strawberries.
Vernacular: nose is primary, showcasing young california zinfandel red fruit jam. This leads to a light bodied palate with moderate acidity, light tertiary characters, powdery tannins, light to no wood or minerality, and surprisingly no alcohol. Linear. Finish was short, dry, diminished acidity but retained a bit of the fruit characteristics.
I like these heavy Zinfandels. I guess I like those jammy reds. Love the nose. Tannins built up. Not very complex but does the job well. Simple and straightforward. I wonder how many bottles of Turley Zinfandel can I drink before I get sick of them. Will be conservative.
