Punset Barbaresco Campo Quadro 2015

I don't usually drink wines this old, but figured a barbaresco should have 10+ years on it. As I was pulling the cork out I thought to myself, "I don't have an ah-so… I hope this cork comes out Ok" so the cork promptly split in two. Luckily, I was able to get the bottom half out of the bottle in one piece.

The lighting in the photo is bad, but the color in the glass is a transparent tawny/brick red.

Opened up with a strong floral nose and dominant flavors of raisins and dried cherries on the palate. Herbal and eucalyptus notes developed about about an hour in. By three hours in, strong tar flavors took over and never relented. The tannins were fine, intense, and coated every nook and cranny in my mouth.

Bottom line, this was a stunning wine with power from the tannins and a delicate side from the high acid and light body. Glad I didn't decant so I could see the development over time. The sweet spot was an hour to two hours in where all the flavors were present and in harmony. Looking forward to trying more nebbiolo in the near future.
