Some may recall I posted an Abreu a couple of weeks ago. That one was a bit too bold and hard hitting for my taste. This one is certainly more my style. Much more elegant and a bit more fruit. It still has that standard Napa Cab taste that I can’t adequately describe, but all higher quality Napa Cabs have it. It opened up over the course of 2 hours and the tannins softened up. Nice floral nose, and some red berries on the tongue. Not quite the long finish of the Abreu, but very pleasant. Cabernet is not my ideal varietal, but in the hands of the right winemaker it is undeniably excellent. I prefer this one over the Shafer Hillside I had several months ago, but not quite as good as the QTR.

It could probably be cellared for another decade and unlock some hidden treasures, but it’s drinking very well right now. I have two other offerings from Bevan from 2019 (EE and Tench). I can’t wait to drink them. I note that on their website the current (2023) release sells for $235. Stags Leap district. I give it a 95, pushing 96. Even my wife liked it! She doesn’t like red wine typically.
