Well there is no doubt that Jintaro Yura, a Japanese winemaker in Alsace is easily among the more hyped producers at the moment. His winemaking is rooted in the natural methods with native yeast, minimal intervention and blending of a variety of vessels. The wine is a 100% Pinot Noir and he uses batonnage similar to Bourgogne albeit not a common practice in Alsace.
The color is pale red, almost pale on the edge of the glass.
The first whiff was quite dominated by bright red fruit, and I must admit I immediately thought here we go again on the one dimensional fruit dominated natural styled pinot. But the nose developed quite quickly into a more refined and perfumed fruit, with some welcomed minerality.
On the palette the wine showed cool red fruit flavours, great purity and finesse with a touch of smokiness. Very elegant and sophisticated pinot noir albeit the length and weight was a tad simple
