This is special for the price.
It is by far the cleanest wine I have ever had.
On opening, it’s quite soft & muted but you can tell theres a lot going on in regard to the nose.
Soft red fruit, balsamic, some mushroom/truffle. But it’s really clean. You can tell on opening the nose is complex because it’s muted but everything is present. It all becomes apparent with air. Big acidity.
Palate is incredible. It’s drinking so good.
Medium bodied, high acid & slow, big building tannin. It’s lacking in the mid palate compared to the Bordeaux I’m drinking a lot of currently.
Lean, not light. You can accurately pick everything up which is deceptive. Red fruit on entry, earth, balsamic. Obvious, dark cherry and some spice & herbs on the finish.
I thought it was lacking originally until I realised it’s just incredibly clean and well defined. That’s what makes it so fucking good. You’re thinking what’s more to this and there isn’t. It’s simple and just deadly.
It’s like big Pinot with a better resolve due to the tannin & more body.
La Ragnaie is known as one of the best producers of this style and I completely understand.
It’s 30 quid a bottle…buy 10 cases.

omg that “clean” description is so spot on! i tried this last month and it’s like every flavor comes through so clearly without anything getting muddled.
Lovely producer. Their 2020 Brunello was one of the wines that got me into wine in the first place
