Hi everyone!
I have this space under my staircase that I really want to turn into something beautiful and functional, but I’m struggling to visualize what it could become.
Right now it’s just empty and awkward, but I feel like it has so much potential. The architecture is quite modern and I recently added this curved boucle daybed which I love. It is part of my living room that is also styled in off white boucle and natural wood.
My goal is to turn it into a cozy, aesthetic “conversation corner” or something that feels homey instead of just leftover space.
A few things about my preferences:
We’ve been going with a theme of soft, natural tones (creams, travertine, beiges, and natural mahogany)
I want it to feel warm, calm, and inviting
I’m open to adding greenery, lighting, textures, or even a statement piece (like art and/or a standing piano?)
My struggles:
The slanted ceiling makes it hard to know what works, I don’t know how to “anchor” the area
Not sure what to do with the empty walls (bookshelves, art, plants?
It currently feels disconnected from the rest of the living room
I’d love any ideas at all, i asked chatgpt and gemini but the results were disappointing and awkward. I’m open to layout changes, furniture suggestions, lighting, wall treatments, anything really 😅

Wrap the area with warm wooden book cases and storage. Soft, warm lighting and a rug to anchor the space.
Style the book cases with plants, art, books, etc.
The furniture should probably face out into the room.
I would just put some interesting plants in the space and add a small bookshelf on the wall at right. Instant reading nook.
But if the area is large enough (seems likely as that is a daybed and looks tiny in the spot) for an upright piano in mahogany finish that also could work against the right wall. Plants at the back (low light ones but it seems you do get some light in there but Sanseveria and Monstera are very sculptural plants that would work.
