Hello!
We recently moved into a new home, and we desperately need design advice for our living room (and actually our whole house 😂). I have attached some pictures of our living room as it currently is. We’d like to keep the sconces (my husband loves them) but other than that we are totally open to a new design – new decor, new furniture, etc. We are planning to throw out the two arm chairs- they came with the house.
PS – We have three kids under three, so we are looking for the layout/furniture to be kid friendly.

Three kids under three is actually a useful design constraint – it pushes you toward choices that are both durable and genuinely good-looking.
A few priorities for this phase:
Sofa: performance fabrics are worth seeking out specifically. Look for upholstery labeled Crypton, Sunbrella, or Revolution – they wipe clean and resist absorption without looking clinical. Velvet that’s been performance-treated is everywhere now and holds up surprisingly well.
Coffee table swap: replacing a glass or hard-edge table with a large upholstered ottoman is one of the best moves for this age. Soft edges, no injury risk, surface doubles as a footrest or extra seating. A large tray on top gives you a stable spot for drinks and remotes.
Rug: low-pile or flat-weave makes cleanup much easier than shag or high-pile. Washable rugs have gotten much better aesthetically in the last few years – worth considering for this stage.
Layout-wise: keep main pathways wide and clear, and cluster seating so kids have a contained play zone within view of wherever you’re sitting.
The sconces sound like a good anchor for the room’s style direction. What are they like – more traditional, modern, industrial? That would really help with furniture and palette suggestions.
