Hey everyone,

I’ll be moving into this house very soon and wondering what I can do up update this kitchen a little bit? I don’t wanna do a full on reno and I don’t want to touch the cabinents themselves right yet.

Any ideas on paint colours, countertops, new hardware, etc?

Any help is appreciated 😊

  1. Get fun with it, I would embrace the burgundy countertops and go for a warm color pallet like maybe paint the white trim a similar color

This was high quality went built. Source: I look at houses all frickin day.

Maybe just do the countertops for now. I wish the houses I show looked this good.

Since you are a new home owner, make a short term, long term, and full-renovation level list for yourself. Things you can do now that you can afford, things you want to do soon but need to save for, and the big renovation things that are wish list but you plan to invest in later.

Easy: Replace cabinet knobs, kitchen faucet, and other small accessories to give the space a more updated feel and a personal touch. Put glass film on the 2 corner upper cabinets to reduce the visual clutter of what you will eventually put in those cabinets. It will do a lot to “clean up” the elevation without committing to big cabinet modifications.

Medium. Re-paint the cabinet crown molding and trim… right now the warm oak and the white trim is clashing in a way that feels very unresolved. You can also give the walls a fresh coat of paint that’s not greige. Also remove the little trim strip between the backsplash and the wall.

Medium-Hard, DIY backsplash and replace countertops. Or countertops only. Probably the most investment you could do to “update” the look, but only if you dislike the red… based on the photos it looks like a Formica countertop, but not in bad condition?

Expensive: replace your sink and equipment to be anything other than white. White appliances have a very “90”s feel to them and can make a space feel dated. But that’s a considerable investment if they are all still working fine.

I think that by making the countops a lighter color that matches the cabinets better, definitely go for a lighter color for the walls, it’ll brighten the space even more.

Once you do that it’ll give you a better idea of what kind of hardware you should go with.

Side note I’m so jealous of your future cabinets they’re gorgeous

Some ideas: Update the countertops and backsplash to a classic creamy white. Sage and white Roman shades for the window and a performance rug to cover the floor, which looks a bit dated. Replace hardware with brass cabinet pulls and knobs. Maybe replace the sink faucet with brass to match. You could also consider removing or replacing the cabinet crowns… maybe you could add cabinet boxes, if possible/in the budget (AI added the pulls to the boxes but don’t do that lol). Display some cute ceramic mugs on the open shelves and in the upper cabinet with a glass door. This is not a perfect image but gives you a visual of some of these changes.

The white crown on the stained cabinets should be removed.

Replace: flooring, countertops, backsplash and cabinet knobs. Paint walls and mounding over cabinets.
