Hey fellow wine lovers!
I picked up this magnum of Vivanco Rioja Reserva 2010 in Spain feom the winery in approximately 2016 when I was visiting my sister. It's bounced around several homes with me over the last 10 years, and was always stored in a dark cool place, but unfortunately due to my lack of knowledge has remained upright the whole time.
I plan on opening this wine to enjoy sometime in the next few months. I would like to be able to pour it for some friends at dinner, but am nervous considering my friends are casual wine lovers at best and wouldn't understand that it may or may not be good still.
Do I just open and see what happens? Should I have some back up bottles in case? What do you think?
Slightly unrelated note: We toured this winery because my sister's father in law said it had the best tour experience, but wasn't really the best wine. I like all the wines I tasted, but he was right about the tour. Highly recommend the experience!

Assuming good storage, more likely it’s too young than too old.
But more likely still it will be good with a suitable decant.
Drink the Penelope instead
If you store it decently; just go for it. It should good
If it was stored in cool dark place it could be fine. Only way to find out is to open it
Open it and try it. If you enjoy what you taste, the chances are 100%.
Was it ever enjoyable?
