I’ve been trying to find something unique for my son’s room (he’s completely into Minecraft right now 😅).
Came across this handmade pixel-style rug and honestly it looks really nice, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it.
Has anyone bought something like this before? Does it hold up well?

I don’t think you will find high quality handmade goods on wayfair. Look for a local place that does custom rugs and ask them. It won’t be $80 though

You won’t get fantastic quality at the price point but it’s cute and if you like it go for it
At that price, it’s very likely not a “handmade” rug. The product shot is also clearly an AI render that doesn’t represent what the rug actually looks like. Here’s a review from another very similar rug from the same vendor and as you can see the texture is very different from the product shot.
If you’re okay with that, go to town. Just thought you should know.

As an adult who also likes minecraft, this rug reminds me of minecraft. I’ve bought some stuff from wayfair and the quality is a hit or miss. It’s never exactly what I’m looking for but most people aren’t as picky as I am.

I would be tempted to make my own out of carpet squares. Take it to a local carpet place and see if they will sell you scraps or have any to throw out. I read you can attach them with a kind of tape that is super strong
I have been disappointed by everything I bought from wayfaire, and that was before AI. That image looks suspect in my opinion. For rugs, look for a local dealer that only sells rugs and nothing else, and you can probably haggle over the price. Think old fashion “oriental” or “Persian” rug dealers. That have new styles too, not just traditional.
Search for “custom tufted rug” and pay attention to the reviews. Pretty sure you can get a pretty good looking rug, but it might not be cheap depending on the size you’re after.
That’s AI generated and will not have that look.
If you want something handmade, maybe you could commission an artist for it? My partner tufts as a hobby and made me an awesome geeky rug of my fave Pokémon. I’m sure the results on a Minecraft rug would be great; different carving and shaving sizes to make these cubes pop out would be pretty easy to do for someone with enough skill and definitely look amazing.
