Tearing down the panels. I did this at the last home in purchased, I thought about painting them but tore them down and I was really pleased with the end result!

My husband would want to leave it 😬 I would rip it out day one.

Taking down. Done it before and it was work but better once gone

i would maybe leave one room or an accent wall or something but i can’t stand the entire wood room look

This looks like the basement, I’m assuming it’s not the main living area? I have 2 suggestions, if that’s the case. You can lean into the mid century vibe and wood paneling and get the appropriate midcentury furniture. Scour second hand shops, FB marketplace, etc… my second suggestion would be to make it a boho paradise. It looks like it gets great sun. Plants everywhere! Tapestries and rugs. Different textiles.

I’d start by getting rid of the old furniture then painting to brighten up the space after that I’d decide if the panels still work or if they should come down.

keeping as is, add contrast with rugs, furniture and frames.

I would absolutely keep. I’m jealous of them!!! They make for such a warm and inviting space with the right decor.

I’d leave an accent wall but tear down the others. Maybe stain as well

If you have the budget to replace the paneling with drywall, that’s the best option (imo). Painting would work too (with a heavy primer first). ✌🏼

Personally im keeping it because it looks in excellent condition. The rom just needs to be styled so it all fits

I’d keep if it’s in good condition, just deep clean to make sure there’s no nicotine stains, lol. Real wood isn’t getting any cheaper, having this much is kind of a flex even if it’s a bit dated looking.

Ask over at r/midcenturymodern console ideas before tearing down.

I’m painting it after a thorough cleaning and a good primer like Kilz. And paint everything, trim, doors, etc.

    Leaving is an option?!

Sorry, I misread the title. I’m not a fan. Is it paintable? I’d paint over it for the cheaper option.

ETA: Is this the only room? Keep it; don’t change the walls.

I’d leave everything, except the furniture. To update, Drop in can lighting. Leather furniture with a mid century style would be amazing.

Why replace it with made in china out gassing materials.
