This is a Napa Cab and it definitely delivers the aura of expensive exclusivity. The bottle is stamped with a bottle number 2,354 out of 5,256. Vivino users gave it a 4.8 which is about as high as I’ve ever seen on that app. Robert Parker gave it a 100 and Cellar Tracker a 97. I bought a horizontal collection of 2013s at an auction for $450 for a lot of 4 bottles. I assume the Thorevilos is the flagship based on their website. Like every quality Napa winery there is a waitlist to get into the wine club. I’ll probably catch some heat, but I’m starting to realize that these big heavy cabs from Napa just aren’t my cup of tea. It’s very good, don’t get me wrong, but I guess I prefer a lighter varietal or a blend if it’s on the bolder side.
Upon opening, the first sip revealed the wine needs time to breathe. I’m not an expert, but I feel this wine could easily be cellared for another 30 years. It did soften slightly over the course of an hour or so. I will finish it tomorrow night and I suspect it will be much better. On the nose it’s certainly not floral, it has some very dark fruits and earthy notes. I’m catching some cassis and cooked old boysenberry? on the tongue. The finish is fairly short but nicely balanced. There is a very slight sourness overall.
I suspect wine club members are paying $200+ per bottle, so I would be out at that price. I actually prefer Young Inglewood, Bure, and QTR to this wine, but it may be partly due to the fact that it needs some serious aging. Or maybe I just have poor taste! I have three more bottles from their other vineyards so I’ll see how they fair over the next decade or so.

omg i’m so jealous you got that for $450.. my college budget could never but someday i’ll try something that fancy 🍷.
Awesome pick up at that price!! Probably should be at least $250 per bottle, even at auction. I’ve seen people pay that price per bottle of Abreu. If you don’t like them, then probably not your style of wine…
