I saw Tom Gilbey go ape shit over this wine, so I had to try it. I get the hype now.
Appearance: Pale yellow to green tinge. Medium to medium minus body, consistent color to rim.
Nose: Lemon, lime, underripe mango and mango skin, fresh cut grass, gooseberry, a touch of green bell pepper, ever so slight passion fruit, super linear minerality. Very restrained for being a Marlborough Sauvy B.
Palate: Clean, zippy lemon. Super herbaceous, slight greenness and minerality. Tropical fruit there, but even after being opened for about 90 minutes, still in the background. Given how restrained this is for New Zealand, again, something I would associate with more Loire Valley.
Verdict: This kicks ass.
TL;DR Get a bottle ASAP, it’s an incredible hybrid of Sancerre and Marlborough.
