Beautiful sunny day in NYC so I stopped in for a refreshing Riesling flight.
Tried three very different versions.
- Karl Lagler, Smaragd 2022
A Full bodied dry Riesling, . . Stone (peach, nectarine) and borderline tropical fruit, petrol, high acid, long finish. Really enjoyed this one.
- Vine Mind (Clare Valley)
Light bodied, green apple, lime, petrol, radish, high acid and lingering finish.
A hard transition from the the ripe Smaragd but appreciated it more with each sip.
- The Paul Anheuser Schlossböckelheimer Königsfels Riesling Kabinett
–
Wet stone meets stone fruit. High acid but masked by RS, and a tough follow after the ripping acid of Clare valley. It was another hard transition. I think I would like this wine more in it was on its own. I've certainly enjoyed Donhoff from the Nahe which this is also from.
My favorite was Lagler. My first time having Riesling from Wachau.

Was at Terroir a couple weekends ago. What a great place with an incredible list. Definitely the place to go for Riesling lovers.
