We had some good friends over dinner over the weekend who love good wine. We decided it was time to open this bottle and serve it with roast lamb. I had high expectations, but we were all fairly disappointed. The color was a deep earthy red and the nose was promising with some dark fruit and leather. The first impression on the palate was "soft", as the tannins and acids and definitely mellowed with age. But beyond this there was little complexity and it felt fairly one dimensional on the finish. I suspect we may have waited to long or the bottle was not stored properly prior to us buying. The bottle was also opened over an hour before we poured it because we got started with some Cremant. Curious if others have any thoughts or similar experiences.

omg i’m still learning about wine but i’ve heard that storage can really make or break older bottles like this. such a bummer when you save something special and it doesn’t deliver.
