So I've moved into a new property and I'm finally starting on the walls.

If anyone has some general interior design tips specifically related to wall colour vs furniture etc that would be great! But I also have a question which is why I'm actually here haha.

So I'm going to be painting my ceilings i think in every room for continuity. I'm going to paint them similar to the picture I included, but the colour will go down to the top 3rd of the walls, and will be finished with decorative wood beams at the end which will be painted the same colour.

What should I do under the paint? I don't want to overload the rooms with colour but I absolutely won't do white- maybe a warm cream at most (going for a kind of whimsigoth/historical vibe ig). Should I maybe do some panelling in the middle 3rd of the room that's cream, and then paint the bottom 3rd the same colour as the top? I'm worried it'd look weird if I did that. I'm open to almost anything except wallpaper because I've never found a wallpaper i like!
For added info, all the door beams etc will be stripped back to natural colour and tinted to match the flooring I'm getting (warm tone medoum brown). I'm already matching the flooring with cool tone dark brown bookcases (no red tint), tables etc for some nice contrast. My sofas are green and I'm making different floral curtains for every window with pinks, greens, mustard yellows, creams and all kinds of colours.
