I just got an app to track our cellar. Upon doing this, I realized two bottles of darioush we have are … a bit late lol. Are they still worth drinking? Bummed about this.

Prime drinking window is when YOU think it’s delicious, not anyone else.

  2. What are you gonna do with them if you don’t drink them? Don’t wait another day if you’re worried about the age. Ain’t no party like a viognier party.

Very few wines have a true “prime” drinking window. It’s a matter of personal taste. Some people like older wine, some people like younger wine, and everywhere in between.

    1. Drinking windows on CellarTracker are not gospel.
    2. Drinking windows from experts are not gospel.
    3. ….why wouldn’t you just open one and answer this question for yourself?

Immediately pour it away, don’t even bother tasting it. Your time is far more valuable than to waste a few seconds of it opening and tasting the wine before passing judgement.

Or, you know, just enjoy the wine as you would normally. Perhaps prioritise them in the drinking order and aim to open at least one of them soon-ish to see where it is.

Not to mention that 2022-24 sounds like an exceedingly conservative drinking window. Wine doesn’t expire overnight like a dairy product – something you should still smell first rather than simply chucking. It just gets better and then less good – these timelines are very different for some wines than others. But just about every quality wine is perfectly good 3-4 years after bottling. That’s really not a very long period as long as storage conditions are reasonable.
