The kind people here helped me see that after getting my new sofa I *really* need to paint these walls. I plugged some photos into an image generator and got some suggestions I think I love. But, our living room is directly within our entry area, which also serves as my office space on the other side.

I have a plan for the entry, starting with getting a hall tree to replace the bench and table I'm currently using, and we'll be switching how the front door opens so that it opens to where the hall tree will be and not right into the living room.

I'm pretty sure I'm going with olive green to compliment the moss green sofa, I'm not sure if I should go lighter or darker (we're in the PNW) though I know I love both drama and light. I'm getting a few paint samples that will hopefully hit close to Farrow & Ball 'Bancha' and will live with them for a while before deciding.

My problem lies in the front wall, which is what the sofa is up against and it's the front door wall. I don't think I want to take a dark, dramatic paint color all the way through the room and there's no good or easy transition when moving from the living room to front door & office.

The photos show the current state of the living room, the transition area, and what the image generator suggested as paint colors. I'm wondering if something like wallpaper could be used to delineate the entry and help visually separate the spaces further. I love color layering and since I spent so much on the sofa I would like it to do more than just blend in, at the same time I really love the first image generated photo. (Don't ask me where the stairs came from)

The shelves are our cat's 'kitty cat highway' and she uses them, we will keep a version of them, but done so as to better match the space (I was thinking going with a stained wood & korbels, fancy it up, OR try to make them blend as much as possible). I don't have a greenhouse so the orchids stay, as does the fish tank.

Your fresh eyes and perspectives are appreciated.

I like the lighter green on the second to last photo. With the darker colors, you run the risk of having the stark white door and the white block table on the left becoming the focal point of the room. Even with the lighter green, the whiteness of the door and blockiness (?) table make them to focal point to my eyes.

I like the mid green with the rust curtains – lovely contrast. You have to declutter though. Wallpaper will just add to the cluttered look.
