Vincent Girardin is pretty near the top of Burgundy producers that consistently deliver at a reasonable price. On sale, this was a no brainer.
Definitely darker, reflecting both vintage and terroir at the south end of the Côte d’Or. Mostly dark cherry but a bit of cassis and some anise spice. Touch of sous bois, but minimal Pinot funk. Clean, well integrated, satisfying finish and complexity makes this a QPR winner. Alcohol is a bit hot and probably the only detractor, again probably a vintage artifact. Would guess it’s at peak now.
