When we bought this house, this kitchen was already done. Pretty much as is. We did replace the hanging lights because one of them was broken and we painted the island gray because it was very beat up wood. The top of the island is actual marble, which is an extremely impractical surface and it’s covered with stains and scratches, and will never look very good. I was watching hometown and they were installing some green quartzite in a kitchen and I fell in love. I’m wondering if this island would look better if it was painted to match the rest of the cabinets and we replaced the marble with green quartzite? Does anyone have the AI skills to show me what that would look like, and what do people think about that idea? I am open to other ideas about the problem island, but the rest of the kitchen will likely stay as is because it’s just too much trouble and expense to change it.

Patina is one of the charms of marble. Embrace it. Right now it sounds like you’re chasing vibes when you have something good right now.
If you are going to change the countertop i believe Quartz is beater than Quartzite.
Have you called a counter company to see if they can smooth it out and seal it for you?
