Hi! I'm looking for an inexpensive desk lamp, but not a typical work lamp (like a studio lamp with a direct spotlight). The idea is a small lamp with warm, indirect ambient light that illuminates the area around my keyboard and desk as much as possible, without the light being too harsh or focused (i.e., nothing like a direct spotlight on the screen).

I have in mind something that:

• Is warm and inviting

• Is indirect or diffused (not a spotlight shining directly on me)

• Illuminates my work area well at night, without making the screen glare or leaving dark spots

• Still has decent brightness and range; I don't want something dim like a candle

I understand that the brightness/range will depend on:

• The bulb (color temperature/lumen rating)

• The lampshade design, material, and light direction

I've seen some inexpensive options on Sklum, but I'm not sure if they'll actually provide the light I'm looking for. I already tried a classic bedside lamp with a shade where the light shines upwards… and honestly, it doesn't illuminate the keyboard/table enough.
