I’d originally planned to open this for my birthday earlier this year, but life got in the way. Decided to stop waiting for the "perfect" moment and opened it on a whim tonight.

Unfortunately I broke the cork whilst I was opening it, so had to strain the wine before drinking – there was some crystallisation on the bottom of the cork (but it smelled amazing!)

The Appearance:

The color is a stunning, deep burnished gold. It has that classic d’Yquem glow that suggests it’s just entering its prime drinking window.

Tasting Notes:

This was remarkably clean and precise, far less syrupy or viscous than other Sauternes I’ve tried. There was absolutely no alcoholic heat at all.

Layers of wildflower honey, roasted tropical fruits (caramelized pineapple), dried apricot, and golden sultanas.

It was more subtle and nuanced than I expected, whispering rather than shouting. A very smooth delicate wine, and I could easily have drunk several more glasses!

I have a bottle of Château Raymond-Lafon 2014 that I'll be opening soon, and will be very interesting to see how they compare.

This compared to the color of that magnum that was posted the other day really validates my option that the mag was severely oxidized
