I have three walls in a new kitchen:

  1. "The Left Wall" – upper cabinets, countertop with sink

  2. "The Back Wall" – extractor hood, stovetop

  3. "The Right Wall" – blank wall and plain countertop

I have chosen my backsplash tile, and I'm doing a blend of these plain tiles and the decor tiles to make a semi-random effect.

I'm trying to decide how to place the backsplash, though. My thought was: go between the upper cabinets and countertop, then carry that same height over to the back wall.

But for the right wall, I kinda feel like it should only be two bricks deep so that I can really frame a big piece of art there (without the risk of the art being "chopped" by the backsplash behind it).

Similarly, on the back wall, I have some people suggesting I just tile the full wall and make it a big feature. But I'm worried it might be overwhelming. Maybe a chimney kind of column?

For consistency, though, maybe it's just best to have all three walls have the same backsplash height.

I've been looking for good reference images, but nothing has helped me make the call. Curious to hear thoughts!
