Wallpaper or paint for sure. Something bold if you’re into it. Add a dark runner to hide dirt from shoes (unless you’re a no shoes in the house home) I think you could sneak a small and slim console table or bench on the stair wall but not 100% sure I have the right perspective from the photo. And update your light fixture!

Also. Do nothing. If anything a skinny entry way table/furniture under the stairs. But can’t really see that whole area.
