Bought our first house and we're still getting settled in. With this living room layout, where should the rug go, and how large? We've been debating whether it should mainly be under the couch/coffee table area, or be larger and extend into the doorway to tie the whole room together (dude, sorry not sorry). Let us know what you think! Any other thoughts you have on layout with our existing furniture are welcome too!
(A few notes: 1. The diagram isn't to scale, and 2. the bonus coffee table to the left of the fireplace is eventually going away.)

1. I’d put a big rug under the couch. 2. You can totally have two rugs to make different “zones.” E.g., one near your couch, the “conversation zone” and one near your chair, the “reading zone”
Larger is always better, though it gets pricey. Extending beyond the sofa area would help it feel more cohesive.
You’re taking out the fireplace?
