If all goes according to plan, this house will soon be ours. It’s an old house that had been tragically outdated, to put it kindly. It’s been flipped.

On one hand, I’m excited for a fresh space, and I’m grateful to move into a house that doesn’t require anything to make it move-in ready! On the other, very obviously a flip. And for more than one reason, I just don’t know what to do when we’d move:

• It’s almost offensively beige, but we can’t afford to and don’t have time to paint right now with a baby coming soon, a toddler and both of us working full-time. What furniture do I get? For the above reasons (plus a black dog), I can’t get a white couch, but beige would be BEIGE! Do I go neutrals for decor?! I don’t want everything to look blah, but the aesthetic doesn’t lend itself to bold design? (Not that I’d be overlyyy bold anyway).

• Textured walls; is wall paper even an option anywhere? What paint color would even look good?

• Both bathrooms and the kitchen have the exact same cabinets and finishes. Do I have to (I know I don’t *have* to, but for design and aesthetics) update them all similarly if I make updates?

— And if I made hardware updates, I feel like I can’t do gold/brass because it’s a warm tone on these stark white cabinets. If the walls were white and the cabinets were more beige, I would know what to do. But the floors and wall color feel warm. I don’t know which direction to go.

• No molding to speak of. Will it look cheap to paint the kids’ rooms a totally different color like green or pink? Will it look like too much without molding to break up the walls?

Thanks in advance!!!

It’s super neutral, so it can be a backdrop for almost anything. I think darker wood tones, brown leather, burgundy, ivory, and olive green would look add some color and contrast while coordinating well with the warm neutral backdrop. For cabinet pulls, dark bronze might give you a bit of contrast without clashing.

Since you’ll have a couple tots roaming around, go for soft furnishings. Think ottomans rather than coffee tables with hard corners, dark patterned rugs that hide stains well, etc.
