As good a reason as any to open some Egly-Ouriet VP! Base vintage of 2016, 7 years on the lees.

Deep gold visuals, evenly distributed streams of the tiniest bubbles, so much so that the wine looks still even from up close, but on the palate you realise that’s a complete facade.

Candied orange, bruised yellow apple, quince jelly, raspberry ripple ice cream on the nose.

The palate for me was more overtly showcasing structural components and less fruit. For a Pinot Noir-dominated cuvée, it was surprisingly percussive, linear and saline. Lime zest and tangy yoghurt with an extremely concentrated and persistent finish that was so powerful it slowed down the need for the next sip. 95 points.

I have only ever tried their bdb grand cru, which was very very good. I will have to try this one out as well!

Egly-Ouriet VP is one way to mark a milestone.
