Hi! So our living room isn’t super huge and we have this one wall on the smaller end with our TV on it (I know it’s too high).
We were thinking of getting rid of the TV and adding a. Electric fireplace mantle on the wall, but not sure if we should go with just the mantle or try to add small shelves on the side as well.
The first pic is what it looks like now (apologies for the clutter!) the wall is about 65 inches wide.
The next 2 pics are AI generated but we can’t decide which would look better. If anyone has any thoughts or advice I’d appreciate it- thank you!

The mantle looks great! I would leave it at that since the wall is so small that shelves just make it look cluttered
I personally like the second with the cubby holes, but some find them outdated.
AI made the wall much much larger, so in reality you would have to get a fairly tiny fireplace. It looks nice for sure, just keep in mind it wouldn’t look as grand as the AI
Fireplace with shelves but eliminate sconces
I like the shelves. Yes, AI did make it bigger, but you can also easily make the all bigger (if the opening is large enough). The thing is, if you only use the depth of the wall, you will o ly have about 4 inches to work with. That limits what you can put on the shelves and how useful they will be.
I don’t think there’s enough room for the shelves. It looks cluttered. Plus those cubbies will be a pain to keep dust free.
I feel like w/o shelves is less busy and calming
My vote without shelves
What if instead, tried making the entire wall a built-in cubby/shelves/entertainment centre vibe, with a big hole to frame the TV (and hide the cable)
The proportions of the ai generated pictures are not consistent with the size of the real wall. If you want to add that little fireplace, you’ll need to extend the wall, the molding, etc.
