My vision did not go as planned.. I was really wanting a dramatic curtain moment for my formal room but this has been a failure. What do I need to do? Any help very appreciated

It would depend on what your vision was. Did you want it to be fuller? Add more panels. Or did you want it more grand? Add a color and maybe a different type of fabric, even just on the outer part of the curtain rod.

Hang the curtain higher, like to the ceiling almost and to the ends of the space and then double the number of panels. It’ll help bring the drama

Is it a double curtain rod? If not- start there.
The beige curtains need to be longer and potentially wider. The way they are now accentuates the asymmetry- and one curtain pair is longer than the other. I would also argue for using another way to put up the curtains (clips etc.) as the top looks messy and scrunched.
Curtains also I would put the curtains a little bit higher to the ceiling.

You need another panel for each side. And I personally like my curtains to touch the floor.
Are these all on the same rod? If they are, you could use tiebacks on the outer curtains too

I would recommend pleated stationary curtains that run the whole length and width.
At first glance, I’m seeing uneven width. At second glance, because the section doesn’t go to the floor and instead a ledge, I think that’s the visual discordance.
You were right this looks better than the pooling, and that’s because it doesn’t reach the floor.
