This winter we completely updated our baement. It went from basically an un-used part of our house to a space where we hang out and entertain friends. We were able to do all the work ourselves, except the backs of these stairs.
I cannot for the life of me figure out a way to hide / cover these. It doesn't really bother me but it drives my wife crazy. She asked if I could 3D print some end caps to put over it but I just don't think that would look good. Is there any way to mask this to look better? We want to keep the carpet

The pros cut the carpet to cover these and staple it all down.
Carpet layers finish that area with the carpet.
Thinking creatively, do you have leftover carpet? You could cut the exact shape of that little back part and glue it on there. Take a screwdriver and try to push in the edges to look like it’s one with what’s there.
If you are short on funds, you could try tacking down the underneath side as closely as possible. Get a grey sharpie and color the beige underside of the carpet. Dab in a slightly lighter shade if there are variations in the carpet (I can’t quite tell). Paint the exposed wood with matching paint.
If you are handy, you could get some millworker trim and make corners to cover all the exposed parts. You would need to putty any nail holes, and plan to tuck any loose carpet underneath the wood with a flathead.
The main problem seems to be the exposed underneath of the carpet as that is what draws the eye immediately to the unfinished part.
Paint them the color of the carpet.
Use either a darker wood or a wood that matches your floor, and cut pieces out that fit the shape put a chamfer around the piece and staple the carpet down to the backside of the stairs and use the wood pieces you made as caps. It should look kinda like older couches with wood inlay in the fronts of the sofa arms.
