We are getting ready to replace our sofa, and I really loved the dark green velvet. Should I stick with that color for the next sofa, or would a terracotta tie in better with the wood colors and kitchen stools? Or is there an even better color that I’m not thinking of to help unify the entire space?

Right now, you have one glorious spot of color in a sea of neutrals. Looking good so far, but you need more color in the space to tie the sofa in with everything. Before you decide on colors for more furniture, you need to add art to the space. Be sure at least some of the art has greens and blues in it so your sofa isn’t the only spot of cool color. Once you have the art, the colors for the rest of the living room furniture will likely become clear. I know it’s easy to be in a rush, but take your time and get art you really like. Try art fairs, local maker shops, thrift stores, Etsy, and other outlets for original art. Especially because it is so neutral so far, your art really needs to add character to the space. Good start! Best wishes!
