I've been trying to make my living room more inviting and cozy. its really small though so im struggling. should i invest in a new L couch along the windows? Should i paint the walls?
Room is roughly 10'x10'
Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

IMO You need to add scale to the space, since everything is on the floor. Something to attract your eye further towards the top half of the picture you’ve shared here.
I’d probably got with some nice long curtains over the window on the right and set them higher than they need to be to give visual height to the space if that makes sense.
Yes, paint and an L shaped couch (EDIT: and a bigger rug) might also help the cozy factor.
I might also consider a tall narrow bookcase behind where the lamp is now.

You can try something like this. I added a bigger rug and curtains to make space more cohesive. New coffee table to tie up the space.
I think adding color by painting the walls is a great option. You could go with a soft color, mid tone neutral or a color that has more punch. It really depends on your preferences. You could consider finding a piece of art or a rug in a color palette you love, and then choosing a wall color etc based on those colors.
I don’t feel that getting an L shape is is the best choice, since your room is rather small. However, if you really want a new sofa, you have the option of getting a more colorful one. With a statement sofa, you can leave the walls white, and add in colors with art and a rug etc. that coordinates with the new sofa. This will make a huge change, and in the case of a colored sofa, you might not need to paint, although you could. 🙂
Other details to add/change would be to find a small scale coffee table and add at least another lamp or two, behind the sofa, or if you can find a small side table that ‘s a great place for a lamp. Lighting with lamps is the one of the best ways to create cozy vibes. Curtains can also add texture and softness.
here are some rooms with colorful sofas for ideas-

Do you want to paint
Really, you can start by adding color. Choose a piece of art, or curtains or pillows from the opposite side of the color wheel. I wouldn’t spend a lot of money before experimenting with color first.
That monstera is going to die a slow death and be very unattractive within a few months if you don’t give it higher light!
