i am an absolute sucker for what we call "Vinos de aldea" in Spain and this can be the perfect example of it. Pick up a region where vines of all kind mix together, whites, reds, whatever, and make something beautiful out of that.
This is made by Verónica Ortega, at El Bierzo. Mencía, Palomino, Dona Branca… really old vines mixed together, fermented in amphoras, fluidity everywhere, tart cherries, strawberry, beautiful fluidty to it, the decomposed iron rich soils give it quite a bit of bloodiness to it. Nice.

Stellar producer!
love Veronia Ortega’s take on Bierzo wines, even more so than Raul Perez. She really captures the vibrancy of Mencia.
