The main purpose of the room is a home office but the daybed pulls out to a larger bed for occasional guests. I’m having a hard time figuring out what size and where to put a rug that doesn’t interfere with the chair but doesn’t look too large/small for the space. I would consider rearranging the furniture but I do really like having the desk at the window.

If there’s no other position for the bed, I’d suggest one under/adjacent to it. While I don’t believe in the mystical aspects of feng shui, the psychological ones are pretty important. Having the foot of the bed pointed at the door can negatively affect sleep on a subconscious level, but n area rug creating a “zone” around the bed could be beneficial and comfortable, especially when waking up on cold mornings.
Next to the bed. The same length as the bed and halfway across the room.
