Wine pairing at Sushi Sakai in Fukuoka for 110,000 yen after tax and service charge.

I find myself going back pretty often more for the wine than sushi now a days.

Usually the rest of their private pairing is better but I think considering its price, they’ve had to accommodate the cost of the La Tache 2019. Spectacular, very floral with stems. Extremely well balanced aromatics with fruit, spiced cinnamon and cardamon. Good acidity and deep pure red fruit.

  1. Pol Roger vinotheque 2002. Brioche, biscuit and short bread. Lots of acidity. Honestly a bit disappointing.

  2. Jacquesson cuvee 742. Pretty good considering price of retail bottle.

  3. Kenzo Estate Asatsuyu

  4. Gaja Gaia and Rey. Langhe 2023. First time trying, quite elegant and sculpted with oak and vibrant.

  5. Antoine Lepetit De La Bigne Meursault Les Charles-Dessus. Apple. Peach. Mineral. It’s okay.

  6. Leflaive Puligny Montrachet 2023.

  7. Cristal 2006

  8. Clos Rougeard Samur-Champigny 2017. This was a smooth and elegant cab franc.

  9. Armand Rosseau Pere et fils ruchottes-chambertin 2021. Very floral and and perfumed. Lots of red fruit, some spice and concentration was excellent and layered.

  10. Coche Dury Aligote 2023.

  11. Juyondai Ryugetsu. Cold dripped sake. Strong fruit aroma. Less melon and more apple and grapes.

  12. DRC La Tache 2019

Major shoutout to Kenzo Estate. I went there back in the fall and it was amazing.
