Which side for entry bench, pic 1 or 2? Front door is the door to the right. Door straight ahead with slats is unused utility closet.

1. Put it on the side of the door hinges. This way you have a straight path walking in and out the door and through the hall instead of having to go around it.
1 because if you have on the same side as the door opening you’ll have to walk around it to get out
Please read the title. The door straight ahead is an unused closet, my front door is the door on the far right!!
I like photo 1! It allows for room to get in the door without going around the bench, especially if you have things in your arms – groceries, etc
The first position is directly in your walking path, i would prefer 2. You could also try each for a few days and see which is less annoying, they both look fine.
Two
2, because then as you come in the front door (which is on the right hand side!) you have a clear pathway coming in to the hallway. Also if you use that bench for taking shoes on and off, then you can walk in, walk pretty much straight ahead, sit down and remove shoes.
I think the placement of 1 would be a bit awkward and I, personally, would bang my knee on it every time I walked in the door
