Been meaning to try this for a while and wasn’t getting lucky at work😔 but I had a nice night working the floor tonight and shelled out a little $$$ for one.
I was skeptical at the combo of facts that it’s a large enough production to be a glass-case/top-shelf option at several local grocery stores, both fairly mainstream and fairly expensive, and that it’s from California (lol).
I’m pleasantly surprised! The nose? Pretty damn good off the pop and pour. Very sexy (🤔) cherry, strawberry, and raspberry notes. But also leathery, and a little earthy. The savory notes blew off after about 30 mins. They will be missed, and the toasty oak got a little more noticeable with some air.
Smooth, round on the palate. A bit big, but not that big for California. There’s ripe red and dark fruits and then a load of acidity at the back. Pretty long, spicy finish with decent tannins for a Pinot Noir.
I think it could do with some age 🚼 but I’m not unhappy at this, even after paying the price! Tonight, I’ll be drinking the rest with my roommate, probably another bottle of $6 shit from Grocery Outlet, and then I’ll pay a different kind of price tomorrow🤕
