Crozes Hermitage: 100% Syrah. 12.5% ABV

Nose: Extremely herbal, a bit of pepper and licorice, and Eucalyptus. Very savory, like how the juices of a steak would smell. Maybe a bit of graphite and soil?

In the mouth, it is incredibly light, easy drinking, and fresh. There’s a lot of acidity.

The finish is acid driven, with a bit of tannins.

I wouldn’t say this is “extremely concentrated”, but this is an incredibly fresh and light Syrah. Don’t expect it to drink like a big, heavy Shiraz, it almost feels light an easy drinking, like Beaujolais. But it has a very interesting and complex aroma.

Lirac: GSM blend, 15.1% ABV. 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre.

Nose: Very fruity, sour cherries, and lots of strawberries. Some herbs.

Palate: Incredible acidity for a 15+ ABV wine, somehow this wine tastes light bodied, and not cooked.

Finish: Light tannins, short finish, mostly acidity.

Again another lighter, acidity driven wine. The way it tastes is almost shocking to me – I expected a big 15%+ Rhone Cru to be rich, almost stewed and jammy, but instead, this one is fresh, acidic, easy drinking.

I’ve had a few Xavier wines recently, this is like my 3rd and 4th in a month. And honestly, I not entirely sure what I think about them. I guess their style could be described as “ultra modern”, extremely fresh, easy drinking, and acidity driven. If you’re coming into these wines expecting ultra concentrated, rich, heavy, jammy wines, it’s not for you. But Xavier makes a great fresh, drinkable, crushable, refreshing red.
