After visiting the Rockford cellar door and finding them sold out, this was spotted in a local restaurant (Knead) for what we thought was a great price so decided to splash out! For those who know it, I'm sorry for the infanticide, but the restaurant did not have a takeaway licence, fair enough we thought. Amazing food and an amazing wine selection more than made up for that.
First post so go easy. Onto the wine!
2021, Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, 13.7% ABV. Clear, medium(+) ruby. Clean, pronounced primary notes of rich black and blue fruits – blackcurrant, cherry and plum. Blueberry, cassis, herbaceous, but subtle notes of eucalypt and mint, hints of fresh black peppercorn. Secondary notes of rich cream, yoghurt, (French?) vanilla and cigar box cedar. Though young, there seemed to be some developed notes of an earthy tar, but primary notes still dominated which kept it vibrant. Tannins were silky yet structured and framed the palate nicely. Both primary and secondary notes followed onto the palate with a solid acid backbone lifting flavours of cherry and fresh herbs. Long finish with lingering pepper and cassis. Finished the second half the next day, leather and earthy notes on the nose were more prevalent. Might be the awareneas of the prestige, but I thought it was outstanding, even as young as it is!
Thanks for reading my wank. <3
