Okay Reddit, need some suggestions please. First picture is what I have done so far. Other 4 pics are original pics of various angles.
Improvements made:
1) removed old shag rug
2) bought an actual bed frame
3) upgraded nightstands
4) picture frame moulding behind bed (am planning to paint this along with walls, but waiting until our baby no longer sleeps in our room)
5) hemmed curtains so they weren’t piled on the floor
6) replaced fan with light fixture
7) hung random wall art (not attached to these)
Suggestions I am looking for:
-Paint color
-What to do with this weird random built-in shelf nook (it’s about 2 feet deep and I think was used for a tv in the early 2000s when this room was added to the house)
-furniture arrangement (bed needs to stay where it is, but dressers can move and I am hoping to somehow squeeze in a little seating area)
-wall art ideas

Mostly just looking to make this into a sanctuary for my husband (39M) and me (37F). We have 2 small kids and I just want a place for us to go at night where we feel…like adults lol

This looks so nice so far! I would replace the art with one big piece that fits within the boundaries of the center molding you put up. I’d also look into bigger lamps for the bed side tables or even some wall sconces. The bed could use a matching set of the white pillows, then rest the long lumbar pillow in front of them with the round one. I think the built-in is cute. I would use it to display your favorite books, vintage decor, maybe those smaller artworks that are above the bed. For paint color, maybe a warm white that’s a bit lighter than the current color, golden ochre, sage, or olive green. You could get away with color drenching and have the ceilings match the wall color in my opinion.
