Firstly- the tv has to stay put. I know it should be on the back wall, but we can’t add another project right now that includes wiring and drywall.

We moved into this home last year and this living room is awkward. It’s long, and right off the kitchen.

First messy picture is how it was BEFORE. I moved some furniture today and I’m not sure if it’s better or worse with the couch dividing the room. We have several home renovations in the works (the long box in fist photo is baseboard my husband is installing upstairs soon.) The white gate thing is our tiny dogs ‘crate’ for night time. I had the pictures centered over the couch before. Not sure how to put them back now, or whether I should move the couches back? Should a narrow table go behind the couch if they stay?

Any advice on how I can better this room without moving the tv or getting all new furniture? 🙃

I like it, inside of the living room it looks cosy. I would add a plant and a side board in direction of the kitchen.

This is why I hate sectionals. They just aren’t versatile enough and always seem to swallow the room they are in. That being said you have to work with what you have so I think you should keep the couch against the wall in back. I don’t think there’s enough room for it in the second picture, even though visually it looks better. If you pull it away from the window curtains I’m not sure you could get around it without running into the tv stand.

I would declutter that back wall though. Remove the corner things and the art. Go with one large piece of art for that wall. Maybe where your laundry basket is put an accent chair to balance the room some. I would remove the shelves and art around the TV also. There’s too much going on in that half of the room.

I mean, you kinda laid out all your options in the photos. If you *actually* want to improve the room, move the TV and consider a different couch, haha.
