I dislike winter and snow with a passion. After learning Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow it was time to warm up with a cab franc and make a steak.
I opened a ‘21 Venge Cab Franc – Sugarloaf Vineyard.
On the nose: Blackberry, licorice, chocolate and espresso are prevalent
In the glass: Opaque, reddish-purple rim, nice legs
On the palate: bright black and blue fruits, black pepper, coffee, jammy, essentially tasted how it was perfumed. The wine was on the heavier side of medium with good structure and tannins.
Made a blueberry red wine reduction for the pan seared steak, the flavors of the wine with the savory steak complemented each other well.
Decant for 1.5 to 2 hrs
ABV 14.9%
This wine could easily use a 5 to 7yr nap to mellow out, I found it youthful but drinkable. Reasonably QPR if you can find it on sale, worth buying 2-3 to try over intervals.
Price: Typically $95, was $75 down to $37 on First Bottle (last bottle affiliated company).
