Hi! I’m moving into a 1950s house with original features. I was wondering what the purpose of these small storage boxes that are separate from all the other cabinetry. There’s no lighting inside the box and they’re big enough to fit spices or tea cups. I’m assuming one of two of those items are its purpose but I wanted to ask to make sure. There’s two of the on either side of the sink.

I don’t know if that’s what it’s built for, but my mother would have kept a phone book there.

My first thought was spices
It’s absolutely intended for spices but they’re awesome and you can use them for anything.
