I’ve done stripes before, in my old house (wish I had pics), I LOVED it. Your space suits the stripes if that’s what will make your heart happy!

I think with the striped rug and also hardwood slats (giving stripe-y as opposed to the inspo pic) you would have a lot of stripes going on. Different rug and runner, could solve that though? Love the idea

While i’m of the opinion you should do what you want with your home, in this case i will side with the husband. Stripes look good in the inspo pic because of the fairly even straight corridor with what looks like evenly spaced doors. This plays with the symmetry of the hallway – and symmetry is something which yours just doesn’t have.
Dont get me wrong, I think your hallway is very interesting – but remain unconvinced stripes would work well here. (especially the turn – where you would only get one striped wall & the weird terminus with stairwell wall, cupboard & stairs)
