One looks nicer and has more closed storage while the other means less storage but more counter space. Counter space is at a premium – we have 6 sq ft of counter tops plus our kitchen table and that’s it. We also have like, zero storage and have all our kid’s cups/plates/bottles on a rolling, small, 3 tier cart. They love going to the cart and throwing everything on the floor (they’re 4 and 1 years old).
Which do we go with? Storage? Or Counter Space?
We’re also limited with width – widest we can go is 49” so our pantry door can open. We also can’t block the only vent in the kitchen (directly under the butcher block).

The second one looks like it’s a rendering so you have no idea if that’s anywhere close to the finished product.
Personally I prefer the closed storage of the first one. If what you really need is counter space though, assuming the second one is as depicted, it might still be better for you.
can you show the rest of the kitchen to see what style would fit better?
1. Having a microwave on a low shelf like in the 2nd would be really annoying, and closed storage is always nice to have. I would like to recommend that you keep the current wooden shelf, and reuse it elsewhere though. (I understand and support that you need something else in the kitchen for better storage. I just think you’d regret getting rid of a perfectly functional wooden shelf like that long term. Maybe move it to a bedroom or living room for extra storage.) Neither product is going to be as sturdy long term as what you have currently, which appears to be actual wood.

What’s the name of that store?
I love the first one. The enclosed storage area eliminates a lot of the visual clutter.
