Hi all! We just moved into this apartment, got pretty much everything you see here off fb marketplace (<3) but it feels a bit boring. I have a Wayfair gift card and was thinking of getting a rug for the living room area, maybe a smallish oval one that went under the coffee table? But would love opinions on if you think that kind of rug would look good and if so what colors would work in this space!

I would get a large rectangular rug that at minimum fits the front legs of the couch and the coffee table. I think it would look better for it to extend past the whole couch though if possible. An olive green, chocolate brown, or burnt orange would add some contrast and warmth to the space. You could go patterned to create visual interest, but a solid would also work nicely here. I wouldn’t do with an oval rug or a small one.
Don’t go small . The rug should be slightly larger than width of the sofa.
Your artwork is all too high. The small ones over the tv don’t work, hang
them elsewhere.
I second the rectangle shape rug. The room is neutral so it can use color to liven it up. Pick a couple of accent colors that you like to use throughout. They should be in the rug.
Add color in decorative curtains, throw pillows, couch throw, vase and plants.
