Tenuta San Guido, Le Difese, 2021, 14% abv.

TSG tasting at a local shop: Le Difese, Guidalberto, and Sassicaia. We start the tasting with the 3rd wine of Sassicaia from TSG estates younger vines. A blend of 55% Sangiovese and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon. Heard there was some american oak in here.

Nose: juicy red fruits, some raw vine-like aromas in there as well, sour marshmallows, prunes and raisins get stronger with air time.

Palate: light body, entry is mildly tart prunes, mid palate shows red and some black fruits, iron, hint of salt, back palate has the vines, salty white pepper.

Finish: short, slightly dry, tannic red fruit giving the impression of tea-flavored fruit.

Vernacular: nose is primary red fruit. Light bodied, medium acidity and minerality, medium grained tannins with some structure. Finish is dry with tannic red fruit. No alcohol.

Too young as usual. Light stuff, flavorful, good balance between acidity and minerality. If it weren't for the tannins, it would be such a smooth drink, like a liquer/cocktail. Wine Spectator gave this 90 points while James Suckling gave this 92-92 points in 2023.

Grade: C+
