Apologies for the crappy picture quality. I need help problem solving! Pictured above is our “entryway” (meaning: front door is to the left and it’s basically hallway width – 1930s craftsman house).
I have been trying to make this/any runner work for years but the issue is that it’s also directly in the path my dog takes when she gets zoomies or races to the foot of the stairs to bark at the cat. You can tell in the picture that the rug gets shoved towards the wall every time this happens. If I take the rug away she would full on slip and crash into the wall.
I’m not worried as much about the floors – they are the original hardwood but we haven’t gotten them refinished yet and probably won’t for awhile. I’m more annoyed at the moving rug and the tripping hazard.
I have tried a non slip mat underneath, and heavy duty carpet tape but they are no match for the zooms. Would it be insane to actually use carpet staples to attach the rug to the floor? Like I said, this is kind of a long term but not forever solution so any holes we create in the floors can be repaired later.
I’d love any thoughts or creative ideas.
